Vitiligo is a disease or skin condition that affects the pigmentation of the skin, thereby causing the loss of skin color in white patches. The discolored areas commonly get bigger over time. Although the skin condition can affect the skin on any part of the body, it is more noticeable in the exposed areas of the body.

One starts having Vitiligo when the cells in the body that produces melanin die or stop functioning. There are no known causes of vitiligo, there are different factors that are believed to cause the skin disorder.

Vitiligo affects people of all skin types, ages, and ethnicity but it may be more noticeable in people with dark skin tones. The condition is not life-threatening or contagious but the lack of uniformity in your skin color can cause stress or make you feel bad about yourself.

Richard Hammond is not the only famous person with vitiligo there are other celebrities who had vitiligo, in fact,  Michael Jackson tops the list.

Contrary to popular belief and media portrayal of Michael Jackson bleaching his skin, the autopsy reports that were done after the death of Michael Jackson confirmed that the pop star had vitiligo.
